Empowering Refugees

We Are Facing an Urgent Crisis

Imagine fleeing your war-torn home with only the clothes on your back, leaving loved ones and memories behind to seek safety—only to face uncertainty again. This is the reality for thousands of refugees who now risk losing access to food, shelter, and transportation due to pauses in federal support. For over 15 years, ICNA Relief has been a lifeline, helping refugees rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

How Your Support Helps

  • $500 provides emergency groceries for one family.
  • $500 covers urgent needs for a month, including utilities, transportation, and medical expenses.
  • $2500 provides housing for one family for a month.
  • $3500 sponsors all living expenses for one family for a month.

Your support makes stories like Amina’s possible. After fleeing Afghanistan with her children, she found housing, English classes, and job training through ICNA Relief. Today, she’s pursuing nursing certification while her children excel in school. Many more families still need this lifeline.

Reception and Placement (R&P) Program

The Reception and Placement program provides essential resettlement services during the initial 30 to 90 days following a refugee’s arrival in the U.S. ICNA Relief manages these services within a 100-mile radius of its local resettlement offices.

Matching Grant Program

In partnership with the Office of Refugee Resettlement, ICNA Relief offers up to eight months of assistance through the Matching Grant Program. This program helps refugees, asylees, and other eligible individuals achieve financial independence through job placement, financial aid, and skill-building support, aiming for integration within 180–240 days.

The Transition Process – Empower

  1. Skills Development: Workshops in sewing, computer skills, and more prepare refugees for income-generating trades.
  2. Transportation: Vehicle donations, driving lessons, bus passes, and volunteer driver connections ensure mobility.
  3. Language Assistance: ESL classes and translation support break down communication barriers.
  4. Job Readiness: Training, resume building, and interview prep prepare refugees for the workforce.
  5. Entrepreneurship Program: Support for small businesses, including equipment like sewing machines and salon furniture.
  6. Mentorship: Pairing refugees with local friends to provide guidance and community support.

Empowering Refugees to Be Self-Sufficient

Empowerment is the cornerstone of integration. Refugees face challenges like language barriers, unfamiliar job markets, and trauma from displacement. ICNA Relief addresses these by providing education, vocational training, employment services, and mental health support.

From English classes and healthcare certifications to resume workshops and job placement, refugees are given tools to succeed. Social services, legal aid, and mentorship programs further strengthen their ability to rebuild their lives. This investment in refugees enriches not only their futures but also the economic, social, and cultural vitality of host communities.
